Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes has rejected an approach from West Ham, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims that the 25-year-old has told Everton that he wants to join them on a permanent basis after spending the 2018/19 season on loan at Goodison Park.

It is understood that Tottenham also wanted to sign the Portugal international but have moved on to other targets.

Manuel Pellegrini will now have to forget about signing Gomes if he does not wan to sign for West Ham, which is a shame for the London club because the central midfielder was in great form at Goodison last season and would have done well at the London Stadium. Gomes made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees and one of his best displays in blue came against West Ham on their home turf in March when Everton won 2-0. It was clear on that day that most Premier League clubs would be lucky to have the playmaker. However with Gomes reportedly earning £110,000-a-week [Spotrac], it would be bad business by West Ham to press on trying to sign a player who just does not want to be there, with his heart clearly set on staying put at Everton. Although this is a blow for Pellegrini, it is still an early stage of the summer transfer window and there is no need to panic.
