Wolves fans should be excited by claims that the club is reportedly in pursuit of Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson.

Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett has reported that the French midfielder is on Wolves’ radar this summer as they aim to add more players to the squad ahead of a 2019/20 campaign that will also include the Europa League.

“Morgan Sanson, the Marseille midfielder, is also a target, and that will make sense,” Dorsett told Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast [41m20s], as shown on Sky’s live transfer blog on Saturday [02:20pm].

Sanson, 24, has had a great season for the Ligue 1 club this season, scoring five goals and supplying four assists in 37 appearances across all competitions from the centre of the Marseille midfield.

According to stats by WhoScored, the former Montpellier ace completed 82.9 per cent of his passes in Ligue 1, averaged three successful longs balls per appearance and also impressed off the ball by completing 2.1 tackles per game and averaging 1.3 interceptions.

Sanson certainly fits the role of being a deep-lying playmaker, similar to what Wolves have in Ruben Neves, but Nuno Espirito Santo needs to add to his squad ahead of next season as they embark on a European campaign.

Neves, Joao Moutinho, Leander Dendoncker and Morgan Gibbs-White have been the only central midfield players that Nuno used in the Premier League this season. Romain Saiss did play parts of the season in that position but was just as commonly used as a centre-back.

While they are really good options, Nuno plays with three central midfielders in each game, so if he was to have one or two injury or suspension issues, then problems could start to mount.

Sanson would be an ideal addition this summer for Wolves.

The former France Under-21 international is at a good age at 25, would arrive at Molineux on the back of a good season, and could really help Nuno strike a balance between pushing for domestic honours, aiming high in the Premier League and reaching far into the Europa League.

It could be a masterstroke of an addition to the squad if Nuno does manage to pick up Sanson this summer.
