Mallik Wilks is going to get the opportunity to impress Marcelo Bielsa and win a place in the Leeds first-team squad next season, according to Football Insider.

Pre-season has already started on the 18/19 campaign and Wilks, 20,  is one of the young players who is hoping to get a chance to show what he can do at Elland Road.

Football Insider has reported that a club source has said Wilks will feature in pre-season training and matches.

VERDICT

Unlike some of the talented Under-23s who have been playing under Carlos Corberan, like Jamie Shackleton, Wilks has been on loan for the past two seasons. He spent the first half of the 17/18 season at Accrington before moving onto Grimsby in January. He spent the 18/19 campaign at Doncaster, where he impressed with 16 goals and 12 assists over 55 games. Former Doncaster manager Grant McCann, now at Hull, was full of praise for Wilks saying, “The lad has got everything to play in the Championship, whether that’s with Leeds, us or somebody else. He’s got all the attributes.” And Leeds are currently on the lookout for wingers, with links to Jack Harrison, Helder Costa and Ryan Kent. Wilks, who can play across all three of the attacking positions, could well negate the need for one of these players. However, after last season, when Leeds struggled to convert their possession into goals, more attacking options are needed.
