West Ham midfielder Carlos Sanchez could be sold this summer if the club can bring in Stanislav Lobotka from Celta Vigo, according to Claret & Hugh.

Lobotka, a 24-year-old defensive midfielder, is one of two players from the La Liga side believed to be on the Hammers’ radar, with forward Maxi Gomez also reportedly targeted as part of a double swoop [Gianluca di Marzio].

Claret & Hugh claim that bringing Lobotka in would open the door for Sanchez – who plays in a similar position to the 24-year-old – to leave the club for between £1.5million and £2million.

Eighty-eight time Colombia international Sanchez has not risen to expectations at the London Stadium following his deadline day move from Fiorentina last summer, making only two Premier League starts and appearing only eight times in all competitions due to injury.

OPINION

If this report is true, it would be a wise move for West Ham to make. Sanchez – despite having his debut season with Newcastle plagued by injury – did not impress much when he did play, and that was never enough. It has simply not worked out for the Colombian, and the Hammers would be better off getting him off their books for good. The good thing is that Sanchez was only signed on a two-year deal, so they won’t be losing much if they do indeed get rid of him in the coming weeks or months. As for Lobotka, he would be a very good replacement for Sanchez and one that would probably have a much better impact at the London Stadium, not least because he is only 24 and has a lot more years left in him. So overall, West Ham should definitely try to get this deal over the line, but one problem could arise when trying to find a club willing to take Sanchez in.
