West Brom are in the hunt to sign Barnsley centre-back Liam Lindsay, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that Derby, Stoke and Brenford are also interested in Lindsday, but it is Serie B champions Brescia who have made the first move for the 23-year-old’s signature by bidding just over £1million.

Lindsay impressed for Barnsley as they won promotion to the Championship last season but it is understood that the Scot could be on his way out of Oakwell this summer due to him being in the final year of his contract.

Good move for West Brom?

Albion will more than likely need to beef up their defence this summer as another year in the Championship means that players like Craig Dawson and Ahmed Hegazi could be on their way out of The Hawthorns.

Lindsay is a good solid centre-back who is quite young and has been in great form over the last year.

If he is available on the cheap then he would certainly be a great option for West Brom as they have their second stab at promotion back to the Premier League next season.

Likely to happen?

West Brom need to sort out who their next manager is first and they are unlikely to sign more centre-backs unless one of, or both of, Dawson and Hegazi move on.

However it would be a shock if Albion weren’t barraged with bids for the pair, so there is a good chance that Lindsay will become a serious target.

Other clubs, like Italian side Brescia, may beat West Brom to signing the 6ft 3 [transfermarkt] colossus by the time they have hired a new manager and moved on existing players.
