Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho have blasted Harry Kane for his anonymous performance in Tottenham’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League final on Saturday night.

Kane, 25, had not played since the quarter-finals of the Champions League due to an ankle injury, but even though he had returned to full fitness for the final in Madrid, he had next to no impact on the way that Tottenham player.

Ex-Arsenal boss Wenger and ex-Chelsea boss Mourinho both agreed that the England captain was not himself for Spurs this weekend.

“We spoke a lot about Kane, he doesn’t look ready,” said Wenger, as shown by beIN SPORTS’ official Twitter account during the match on Saturday. “Overall, only Son looked dangerous.”

Mourinho added: “Harry Kane was hidden all the time. Normally he drops back, normally he comes in between the lines, normally he’s the link play.

“There’s nothing of this dynamic.”

OPINION

In hindsight, Mauricio Pochettino should not have started Kane, but it was a poor game and it’s not like the Spurs midfield was supplying plenty of golden chances for the England striker. Even if he didn’t start, Spurs would have probably lost, but as Mourinho pointed out, Kane was simply not his self in Madrid. Where was the link-up play? Why didn’t he drop deep? Kane just seem to stand on the line of the Liverpool and did nothing, expecting Spurs’ midfield to pick him out. When Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli don’t play well, that just isn’t going to work and Pochettino should have hooked Kane rather than keeping him on until the end, because as Mourinho also pointed out, he was just anonymous. Spurs lost the final, but it was a very bad game and Pochettino and his men should know that on another day, they might have won that if they weren’t up against such an in-form goalkeeper in Allison.
