Man United are close to confirming their second deal of the summer with Aaron Wan-Bissaka set to sign for £50million, according to the Sun.

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol followed this report up with an update on his personal Twitter account, with Wan-Bissaka “about to take off on private jet from Biggin Hill airport to Manchester.”

He said the flight would leave at 4pm and that he could have part of his medical tonight.

Man United have already signed Daniel James from Swansea.

VERDICT

We predicted almost two weeks ago that the fee for Wan-Bissaka, while unlikely to reach the £60million Palace had demanded, could easily reach £50million. And so it is, with Wan-Bissaka becoming the most expensive full-back in the UK after the £47million deal that saw Kyle Walker move from Spurs to Man City. Wan-Bissaka will also become the most expensive player in history for someone with fewer than 50 appearances. It’s a hell of a lot of money but Wan-Bisakka looked brilliant last season and at only 21 is likely to keep getting better. United are reportedly buying him as their number one at right-back with Ashley Young said to be dropping down the pecking order. Wan-Bissaka is a big upgrade, with stats from WhoScored showing he made almost twice as many tackles per game, as well as beating Young for interceptions, clearances and blocks. He also made twice as many dribbles per game and at United, he could take his game to the next level. United desperately need quality in defence after a season where they conceded more than any other team in the top nine and more than double both Man City and Liverpool. We think Wan-Bissaka is a good buy, even at £50million.
