Tottenham fans should have fresh hope that a move for Giovani Lo Celso can go ahead after the latest comments on the player’s future.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, new Betis boss Rubi – who came into the role last week – spoke out on the rumours linking the midfielder with a move to North London this summer [Daily Star].

“You always want to have the best players at your command and Lo Celso is,” the manager said, as quoted by Deportes ABCdesevilla.

“I don’t have to talk about a player who, without being a striker, has scored 16 goals in his first season here, but I do say one thing.

“I have peace of mind that, if he has to leave, hopefully not, that money will be invested in improving the squad.”

These comments should definitely excite Spurs fans, because they confirm one thing: that Rubi has a plan in place to reinvest if Lo Celso does leave Spain.

This surely means that there is a real possibility of the midfielder leaving – Betis won’t get the opportunity to sell players for this sort of money often and they know it.

Although it would be a hammer blow for the La Liga side to lose Lo Celso, he is likely to command a very high fee having only recently agreed a permanent move to the club following a loan stint from Paris Saint-Germain.

Therefore, the fact that his contract is very fresh, that – as well as the player’s obvious quality – will make for a big transfer fee. So if Lo Celso was to leave, Betis would have significant funds to splash out in the transfer market.

As for where this leaves Spurs, the comments confirm that there is a contingency plan in place at Betis and that the club are indeed thinking that they could lose Lo Celso.

And for Spurs, this should keep their fans motivated that the club will do all it can to get the big summer of spending underway with what would be a very exciting signing in the midfielder.
