Rangers fans will surely be gutted after the latest claim about the club’s reported interest in Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas.

A previous report had said that the Ibrox club were keen on bringing the 26-year-old – who currently earns £23,000 a week [Source: Spotrac] – north of the border [Bristol Live].

The Daily Record now claim via their transfer blog [Wednesday, 8:42 am], however, that Steven Gerrard’s side have no interest in the centre-back, who has recently returned to Stamford Bridge following a season on loan at Championship side Bristol City.

This latest report will surely come as gutting news to Rangers fans, as the club are in desperate need of a new centre-back, and Kalas fit the bill perfectly.

The Gers currently have Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic signed up at the back, after loan star Joe Worrall moved back to Nottingham Forest following his temporary move.

Gerrard’s side are reportedly still in the hunt for Oldham Athletic’s George Edmundson [Football Insider], but that link has been around for a long time now and it is starting to drag on. While there is a chance Edmundson could move to Rangers, there are also doubts over whether it will happen.

The fact is, Kalas would be a fantastic signing for Rangers. He is highly unlikely to get a shot at first-team football with Chelsea – regardless of who the manager will be next season – and so it is a great chance to swoop for a great player.

Kalas had a solid season for Bristol City, making 38 Championship appearances and three more in the FA Cup, but it now looks as if the Gers will have to focus on other targets – perhaps Edmundson – as there is said to be no interest.

Both would have been nice to really beef up the options at the back, but it looks as if Rangers are not keen on Kalas at all.
