Tottenham fans will surely rejoice after the latest reported transfer development on the future of Christian Eriksen.

According to Spanish publication Marca, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has made up his mind and will go all out to sign Manchester United’s Paul Pogba this summer.

The Los Blancos manager was said to be weighing up whether he wanted Pogba or Eriksen, but the news outlet’s report adds that Zidane does not want ‘anyone else’ other than his fellow countryman.

What’s more, Marca claims that Pogba is keen on the move to the Spanish capital and is willing to take a pay cut to join the ranks at the Bernabeu.

This could mean that Eriksen will now be staying at Spurs, despite the 27-year-old admitting that he would be open to finding a new challenge this summer [Ekstra Bladet].

There have been continuous links suggesting that Eriksen could move to Real Madrid this summer, but if Zidane definitely wants Pogba instead, then the chance of that move happening look to have taken a fatal blow.

And despite Eriksen wanting a new challenge, it is surely unlikely that he will move to another club now. Madrid was surely his only option for a step up.

All this has got to mean that Eriksen – whose contract in North London is due to expire next summer – will surely run its course and the Danish international will be staying at his current club.

If this report is true – and Eriksen does end up staying – then it will be a lifeline. It will be like a new signing for Spurs, since speculation that the player could leave has already been rife, and we are not even one third through the transfer window.
