OPINION

This latest report could be a blow to Aston Villa’s hopes of signing Kane on a free transfer this summer, following the end of his contract at Stamford Bridge. The 25-year-old would be a useful addition for Villa’s squad for next term, but is hardly the sort of marque signing fans would have been hoping for following the club’s return to the top flight. However, with Alan Hutton being released Dean Smith’s side are in need of some added competition at right-back, and coming off the back of a good season at Hull, Kane could be an option to provide competition for Ahmed Elmohamady next term. It will be interesting to see which club wins the race to secure Kane’s signature this summer, with Villa potentially holding an advantage, especially over Fulham and Derby with the club able to offer the right-back Premier League football next term. Smith will be hopeful he is able to swiftly persuade the defender to make the move to Villa Park this summer, so that he can move onto to securing other potential targets.
