Tottenham fans should be drooling over a report which claims that a bid has been tabled to sign Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Portuguese news outlet O Jogo has reported that Spurs have put forward a proposal worth around £62.3million for the 24-year-old, who is seen a a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen in North London.

It is understood that Manchester United are also interested in Fernandes, but are hesitating in their pursuit of the Portugal international, while Manchester City have ended their interest after negotiations went “haywire”.

Super-agent Jorge Mendes is now said to be involved in talks to take Fernandes to England and it sure seems as though Tottenham are winning the race for the impressive midfielder’s signature at this stage.

Fernandes is a player that Spurs fans should be very excited about seeing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season, if they are able to wrap up a summer swoop.

The Sporting CP captain was in amazing form last season, scoring 32 goals and supplying 18 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions for the Liga NOS club, as they won the Taca de Portugal and Taca de Liga, Portugal’s two domestic cup competitions.

According to stats by WhoScored, Fernandes averaged 3.2 key passes, 1.8 crosses and 4.3 successful long balls in each of his league appearances for Sporting CP last season.

In comparison, wantaway Spurs star Eriksen completed an average of 2.3 key passes, 1.5 crosses and 2.9 long balls in his Premier League outings for Tottenham.

While it is obvious that Fernandes has been reaching them numbers in a weaker league, it is surely encouraging that he is only 24-years-old and could without doubt fill the void left by Eriksen should he leave North London this summer.
