Tottenham officials have been left surprised by Danny Rose’s comments after the full-back questioned his future at the club, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper report that his recent admission came as a surprise to senior figures at the club after Rose impressed Mauricio Pochettino with his end of season form for the London club.

The £60k-per-week star [Source: Spotrac] was uncertain where he will ply his trade next season after the defender finished international duty with England in the UEFA Nations League.

After the Three Lions’ recent win over Switzerland, Rose caused confusion saying it would be great wherever he plays next season, making the brazen admission that he is not sure where his future lies.

The defender told Sky Sports: “I don’t know what the future holds now. I’m looking forward to a break. If I’m back at Tottenham next season, great, if I’m not – great. I’ll just have to wait and see.”

The 28-year-old made a total of 37 appearances for Spurs this season, sharing the left full-back position with Welsh international Ben Davies.

OPINION

Danny Rose will definitely have raised a few eyebrows with his comments after Sunday’s game with Switzerland. At 28-years-old, the defender seemed to read into the club’s policy of wanting young players at the club. With senior officials reportedly being surprised at his interview, they could have been expecting the England international to play a big part under Pochettino next season, especially after he impressed the Argentine towards the end of the last campaign. Rose will most likely stay at Spurs, with both him and Ben Davies both consistent enough performers for the club to be satisfied with their options in that particular position. Even Rose himself admitted that it wasn’t about his playing time after saying he was happy with the number of minutes he was given after a disappointing campaign the season before last. The defender may be jumping the gun with his comments and after a summer break, his head could be fully cleared and ready to go for next season at Spurs.
