Tottenham have held talks with the agent of Bruno Fernandes this week, according to the Telegraph.

The talks reportedly took place with Miguel Pinho in London yesterday.

And the Telegraph reports that the news could spark Man United into life, after they had previously held talks with Pinho over a move for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder.

United have prioritised a move for Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka but will be on alert after the Spurs news.

Sporting Lisbon have put a £75million price tag on Fernandes but the Telegraph claim they would probably accept around £45million for the 24-year-old.

OPINION

You can see why a lot of transfers don’t get done early in the window. Valuations are getting ever-more ridiculous as clubs try and maximise value for players who are wanted by more than one club. Sporting will love the fact that Tottenham and United are both interested in their player. The Premier League is awash with money and both these clubs are looking to spend this summer. Unfortunately for them, Daniel Levy is a notoriously tough negotiator and it would be a better man than we’ve come across who can make him pay over the odds for a player. Fernandes is a talent but £70million is ludicrous, even for a player who was involved in 33 goals in 33 league games last season (20 goals/13 assists). The numbers are good though. He had the most shots per game (3.6) of any player in the Portuguese top-flight and he was the highest-rated player on WhoScored in the league. The Premier League is a step up and he’s only scored a single goal for his country, but his versatility – he can play as an attacking midfielder or a second striker – means he would fit what’s needed at Tottenham perfectly. £70million may be way too much but £45million seems fair in today’s over-inflated market.
