Tottenham fans need to realise that negotiating transfers in the real world is not like how it’s done in FIFA or Football Manager. Spurs have reportedly offered just £35.7million as their opening bid to sign Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, with ABC Sevilla claiming that the offer has been rejected as it fails to come anywhere near to the 23-year-old’s release clause of £89.2million. Daniel Levy has been blasted by many Tottenham fans on Twitter for this low offer, but that is just how it goes with the Spurs chairman. Why should he bid high straight away and get ripped off by Betis? Start low and work your way up, that’s the best strategy. It can unsettle the player and maybe make it possible to get a bargain deal done because while Lo Celso is a good player, he’s hardly worth what Betis are demanding for him. Spurs fans should remain patient. It is frustrating to see bids rejected, but it happens all the time.
