Tottenham are on the brink of signing Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, according to gianlucadimarzio.com.

The report claims that a fee of £55.5million plus bonuses should be accepted by Lyon, with the bulk of the deal concluded.

Tottenham will schedule a medical once the final details of the contract are agreed.

A previous report from the Evening Standard named Ndombele as one of Tottenham’s top targets, alongside Giovani Lo Celso, Jack Clarke and Ryan Sessegnon.

VERDICT

This is a major deal for Tottenham and if they can get it over the line, fans will be ecstatic. Ndombele has serious potential, as evidenced in this Statsbomb article that marked him out as a breakthrough player last year. His numbers show he’s exactly what Tottenham want – an athletic midfielder who is always looking to move play forward, and he scores highly for both passing and dribbling with the ball. He made the most take-ons, won the most fouls and made the most tackles of any player in Ligue 1 last season [Squawka]. Tottenham have been lacking a midfielder ever since Mousa Dembele left in January and this is the player that Tottenham fans had identified as the one they wanted Daniel Levy to sign to prove the club’s ambition. Spurs fans have been calling for him since October last year, with one supporter calling him “the chosen one” back then. Fans can get even more excited by watching this highlight reel from BT Sport. After not buying for two transfer windows, it looks like Levy is finally going to spend and spend big. If Tottenham can also land Giovani Lo Celso and Jack Clarke, it will be a brilliant window and will ensure Spurs at least keep pace with the current Premier League power two.
