Tottenham are not interested in signing Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that Leicester are in talks over signing the £40million-rated midfielder on a permanent basis after an impressive half-season loan at the King Power last season.

HLN journalist Kristoff Terreur has previously reported that Tielemans’ agent has sounded out talks with Spurs since the end of last season, but the North London club is not keen on pursuing a deal for the Belgium international.

OPINION

Tottenham should definitely be trying to sign Tielemans. The 22-year-old was in superb form while on loan at Leicester last season, scoring three goals and supplying five assists in 13 total appearances for the East Midlands club. Spurs need to strengthen their midfield this summer and if Tielemans is available for £40million then Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino should be all over that. Christian Eriksen has recently confirmed his desire to leave North London this summer and although Tielemans is a more deeper-lying midfielder, he is certainly someone who can fill the creative void that would be left by Eriksen leaving. Spurs need central midfielders anyway this summer and even if they just wanted to spend £40million on adding some strength in depth, Tielemans would be a superb buy. Unless the Belgian midfielder has not interest in signing for Spurs, there’s no good reason for Pochettino to not be eyeing up a move for the ex-Anderlecht star.
