Rangers captain James Tavernier has delivered a Twitter message to Lee Hodson ahead of the latter’s move to Gillingham.

The right-back spent last season on loan at St.Mirren, but has agreed to leave Ibrox on a permanent basis to join the League One outfit.

And Tavernier was quick to wish him good luck.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “Top guy and a great teammate.

“All the best down there Lee Hodson!

“Go smash it up bro.”

OPINION

It’s probably the right thing for Hodson to leave Rangers now. The defender wasn’t getting a look in, so much so that he was sent out on loan last term to St. Mirren. Chances are that things weren’t going to change any time soon for the 27-year-old, and so for a player of his age, it makes sense for him to look for regular football elsewhere. Tavernier has largely been the reason he hasn’t been able to make an impression during his spells with the Gers, and to be fair, it’s easy to see why. The captain is some player, and has been a real force of nature north of the border this season. His goalscoring record is nothing short of audacious, as is his assists tally, and Steven Gerrard will know just how special an asset he is for his side. No doubt that will lead to interest in one form or another this summer, and the hope will be that Tavernier isn’t the next ace to be sent on his way with best wishes from his teammates.
