Tottenham remain interested in Leeds United winger Jack Clarke, but are unlikely to meet Leeds’ valuation of the teenager, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay.

The youngster made 25 appearances for United last season and has attracted attention from the Champions League finalists this summer, as reported by the Daily Mail.

But Hay claims that their is a disparity in the two sides’ valuation for the 6’2″ ace [Daily Mail] that Spurs are unlikely to bridge.

Writing in a piece for the Post, Hay said: “Youngster Jack Clarke is the subject of serious interest from Tottenham Hotspur but Spurs are unlikely to meet Leeds’ current valuation of the winger.”

OPINION

If this is true then it would be brilliant news for Leeds. Clarke is a massively precocious talent who slipped into the first team setup at Elland Road last season with minimum fuss and maximum effect. He has a natural instinct for creating problems for defenders, and his direct approach and willingness to get at people makes him a refreshing and valuable asset. You can see why Spurs would be keen on bringing him in, but at the same time, staying in Yorkshire could prove to be the best thing for the player as well. This way he gets another season or two under his belt playing regular football for his boyhood club, and that can only be a good thing for his game developmentally. One day Clarke will get his big move, if Leeds don’t get back to the top table before then, but for now, he is best off staying put.
