Tottenham have not yet released Fernando Llorente from his deal at the club, according to Football London.

The football outlet claims that despite appearing on Tottenham’s released list on Friday, the club still has three weeks to offer the Spaniard a new deal at the club.

Football London claims that the 30-year-old has not left the club yet and still has the chance to sign a new deal at the club before his current contract, worth £75,000-per-week (Source: Spotrac), runs out at the end of June.

Llorente was mainly used as a back up to talisman Harry Kane, and scored eight goals and assisted a further five in his 35 appearances, including the all-important winner in their Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City.

OPINION

This will be a big summer decision for Mauricio Pochettino and it all depends on which way he wants to push Spurs in the years to come. There are obvious positives in keeping Llorente, who at 30-years-old offers great experience as a World Cup winner to the squad. The Spaniard also knows his role and will not expect or demand more playing time, as he knows that his position is to offer backup to Kane. The bad side of keeping Llorente will be his £75,000-per-week contract [Source: Spotrac], which is a huge amount for a player that is used sparingly. Now could be the time for Pochettino to replace Llorente with a younger forward, with pace to offer when needed off the bench. Lucas has proved that when coming on later in games this season, whether on the wing or central, that he can offer much more danger than Llorente’s physicality can.
