Southampton are interested in making another move to sign Birmingham City striker Che Adams this summer, according to the Daily Echo.

The newspaper report that Southampton are not believed to have been put off by seeing a move for Adams rebuffed by Birmingham in the January transfer window, and are set to renew their interest in the forward this summer.

It is thought that Ralph Hasenhuttl is keen to add another centre-forward to his squad during the summer transfer window, and that Adams is one of several targets the Saints boss has identified, but if Birmingham’s valuation does not match Southampton’s the club will swiftly move on to other options.

Good signing for Southampton?

Adams would be a very good addition for the Saints this summer, with the 22-year-old displaying his potential with an outstanding campaign last term scoring 22 goals in the Championship for a side who finished in the bottom half of the table.

Southampton are in need of a new forward this summer, and Adams could be the player needed to help provide more fire power up front for a side that have been battling against relegation from the Premier League for the last few seasons.

At the age of 22 the striker still has plenty of room to develop, and given the Saints track record with improving young talent it could be an excellent fit for both parties were a move to materialise.

Likely to happen?

Southampton’s efforts to sign Adams were rejected by Birmingham in January, with the club keen to hold onto their influential top scorer until the end of the campaign.

However, having been deducted points towards the end of the season for breaching financial fair play rules, Birmingham are likely to have to cash in on Adams this summer.

That means that Hasenhuttl’s side should be able to take advantage and make a swift move for the 22-year-old, with the Saints having been tracking him since January which probably puts them ahead of other clubs for his signature.

Although Southampton are believed to be wanting to be quick with their summer transfer business and if Birmingham have a high valuation for the striker, the Saints could move on to other targets.
