Former Rangers enforcer Giovanni van Bronckhorst has admitted he would one day love to return to Ibrox as a manager after being flattered by recent links.

The midfielder enjoyed a great three year spell at the Light Blues winning the treble under Dick Advocaat and recently left his role at Feyenoord after guiding them to great successes during his spell in charge.

Speaking to the Sunday Post, van Bronckhorst admitted: “To be the manager of Rangers is a huge honour, of course. I’ve been linked with it once or twice, and that was very nice.”

“You never know what may happen in the future, and we all know that it is never wise to try to predict where your career may take you. You never know what happens because I know the club and have nice feelings for it.”

Van Bronckhorst took charge of 176 games at Feyenoord and brought the club their first league title in 18 years alongside two Dutch Cup successes.

The Dutch midfielder made 73 appearances for the Gers and a potential reunion clearly excited the retired Dutch international.

OPINION

The Rangers job is a totally different kettle of fish nowadays compared to what it was when van Bronckhorst used to watch Dick Advocaat take control of the league in his tenure at the club. After many years of total dismay and mismanagement has led to a long road being taken to return to greatness. Steven Gerrard is the current man at the helm and deserves great credit for what he has done in slowly becoming a cult figure at the club. The former Liverpool man has gotten his Gers side closer than ever in recent years to the dominant Celtic, even picking up two Old Firm wins. The experience does show van Bronckhorst has a great potential future manager though, his role at Feyenoord cuts very similar features. The former Light Blues midfielder took his side in a league dominated by clubs like Ajax and PSV Eindhoven and delivered silverware – one league title and a couple of League Cup’s to add to that. The next step at Rangers is to stop just trying to challenge and firmly put their foot down and halt Celtic’s charge by winning their own pieces of silverware once again and they need to do it consistently.
