Kilmarnock midfielder Jordan Jones has said that he wants to be a “real success” at Rangers but admitted staying focused has been difficult ahead of his move to Ibrox this summer.

Steven Gerrard’s side secured a pre-contract agreement with the 24-year-old – who made 35 appearances for his current club last season – during the January transfer window.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Jones explained that he was excited to begin the next chapter of his career in Glasgow, saying: “I’m itching to get started with Rangers and put my marker down. I’m not going just to say: ‘I play for Rangers.’ I want to be a real success and believe I can go there and do that.

“We are going to be playing European football in front of big crowds and I have no doubt we will win the league at some point – hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later.

“Since January, when the move was announced, I’ve obviously been trying to fully focus on Kilmarnock – but it has been quite hard. This move can only be positive for me and I’m determined to give it a really good go.”

OPINION

It seems as if Jones is prepared to get to Rangers and hit the ground running, which is exactly what you want from a new player. Having helped his current club achieve third place in the Premiership last term, there is no doubt that Jones will be raring to go for the new season and his enthusiasm for the new chapter of his career will likely be infectious. As the midfielder admitted, it would have been very hard to remain focused on his current club when he knows he has another move around the corner. But he has done so respectably, finishing the season with 35 appearances and chipping in with four goals and four assists along the way. All in all, Jones has paid his dues to Kilmarnock and can now look forward to moving to Ibrox, where he will likely be a solid addition to Steven Gerrard’s squad next term.
