Rangers are set to loan out 21-year-old winger Jake Hastie just weeks after he signed from Motherwell, according to the Scottish Sun.

Hastie joined Gers on a free transfer at the beginning of the month on a four-year deal after his contract expired, but he is not believed to be in Gerrard’s immediate plans for the forthcoming season.

Gerrard already has five wingers at his disposal and would prefer to loan out Hastie in order to develop his career.

19-year-old right winger Glenn Middleton will also be loaned out.

Their opportunities of first-team football at Ibrox would be even more limited if Rangers are to complete the loan signings of Liverpool youngsters, Sheji Ojo and Ryan Kent for a second successive season.

OPINION

This is a good move for both Jake Hastie and Glenn Middleton. They would be surplus to requirements at Ibrox and would get very little playing time ahead of Jordan Jones, Daniel Candeias, Jamie Murphy, Greg Stewart and Eros Grezda, who Gerrard already has at his disposal. Jack has already had loan spells at Airdrie and Alloa Athletic, so it would be more beneficial if he experienced playing at a lower level Scottish Premier League side or even another league in European football if the opportunity became available. It is crucial to both players development that they play first-team football on a regular basis. This would most likely only happen at Rangers in cup competitions unless there were was an injury crisis in the first-team. The loan moves would significantly improve both players growth and would give them an increased chance of playing first-team football for Rangers in the future.
