Radio host Ewan Cameron has claimed that Celtic will be stopped from winning their ninth Scottish Premiership title in a row next season by Glasgow rivals Rangers.

The Hoops completed an unprecedented treble treble last term, with Neil Lennon adding the finishing touches to the work began by former boss Brendan Rodgers.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Radio’s ‘Superscoreboard’ podcast [Monday, 02:50], however, Cameron insisted that Celtic’s reign over the Scottish top flight would end next season.

“Celtic won’t win a treble again. That’s it, it’s gone,” the radio host said. “The treble Treble is done. It’s not going to happen. They might win a cup but they won’t win the league.

“Rangers will stop them winning nine-in-a-row. I’m making that bold prediction tonight here on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard. Celtic will not win the league under Neil Lennon and I’ll tell you another thing, he might not last till Christmas.”

OPINION

As Cameron says himself, this is a very bold prediction to make. However, if the recent campaign has taught us anything, it’s that anything can happen in football, and there is every chance that Rangers could indeed pip their arch-rivals to the Premiership title. It all depends on how each side strengthens this summer, for it is a crucial period of business for both teams. Both sides need a rebuild and if they do that, it is going to be an extremely exciting season. Having bedded his ideas in at Rangers, you would not bet against Steven Gerrard closing the gap between the teams, but with Lennon’s pedigree and credentials as a winner at Celtic, it is a tall order to say that they will pip Celtic to the title. One thing is for certain: both sides need a clear-out and new players need to come in. But until that happens, we cannot really make such bold predictions as these about where the 2019/20 Premiership title will go.
