Celtic fans will surely want to run and hide after the latest report on their supposed chase for Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull.

According to The Scottish Sun, Neil Lennon’s side are very keen on the 19-year-old but are unwilling to enter a bidding war for the player.

Unfortunately, that may mean the Hoops could lose out on the midfielder – and that would be absolutely terrible news for the Parkhead club.

At the age of only 19, Turnbull is one of Scottish football’s most coveted talents and it is no wonder that his name is being thrown around every day by the press.

He was absolutely fantastic for Motherwell last season, scoring 16 goals and assisting seven others in 34 appearances in all competitions. In the Scottish Premiership, the midfielder scored nine goals and set up five others in 25 games.

The fact is, he did not even play in every league game for Motherwell last season but was nevertheless so impressive in that competition.

Hence, Motherwell will surely only be willing to let their young star go for the highest price. And that means – as the report from The Scottish Sun says – that a bidding war could be likely.

But if – as the report also says – Celtic are unwilling to be a part of this bidding war, Lennon’s side can forget about having any chance of signing Turnbull.

It sounds like Celtic are only willing to submit one or two bids and, if they are rejected, they will pull out of negotiations. And that would be a bad move.

Celtic need to strengthen this summer and Turnbull is one player who would make a real impact for the club if he was to come in. But if the Bhoys are unwilling to go all out for his services and battle for his signature, they can wave goodbye to their hopes of signing him.
