Celtic chief Peter Lawwell is going to ‘move fast’ to conclude the deal for Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull in the face of Championship interest from England, according to the Daily Record.

They have already agreed a £3million fee with Motherwell and are close to agreeing personal terms with the 19-year-old.

The Record claims that Celtic expect to get the deal done by end of play on Friday.

OPINION

This will be a great deal for Celtic and with no bids coming in from rivals we can’t see any reason why this won’t get concluded today. 16 goals in the Premiership for Motherwell have put him on the map and the Scotland Under-21 international should now get the chance to showcase his skills on the biggest stage in Scotland. He also offers versatility as well, able to play in central midfield or a more attacking role, as well as out on the left – we think he could make an immediate impact at Parkhead despite his age. Pundits are convinced that Celtic are onto a good deal too. Talking on the Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast (Weds, 1:03:10), former Rangers striker Kris Boyd said, “The kid’s got talent, there’s no doubt about that. Some of the goals he’s scored, right foot, left foot, some of the passes, he’s not one of these players who likes to get on the ball. He makes the ball do the work.”
