Motherwell have agreed a club-record fee with Celtic for 19-year-old David Turnbull and the deal should be completed on Thursday, according to the Scottish Sun.

The report claims that if personal terms can be agreed “in the next 24 hours” the 15-goal midfielder will become Celtic’s first signing of the season.

The report claims that the initial fee will be £2.8million and that this could rise to £3.2million with add-ons, and that negotiations should be concluded on Thursday.

OPINION

This follows on from the news yesterday when Motherwell confirmed they had accepted a bid that “will be transformational”. Barnsley and Southampton were also keen on Turnbull but he now looks set to join Celtic. It’s a lot of money for a 19-year-old from the Scottish Premiership but his standout season, that saw him score 15 goals and add seven assists, has convinced Lennon that he should be the player that kick-starts his rebuild this summer. He’s exactly the sort of player that Celtic should be targeting – someone who can make an immediate impact in the Scottish Premiership and one who will only get better on the big stage of the Scottish giants. Turnbull has come up through the ranks at Motherwell and while they’ll be sorry to see him leave, the money they’re getting for him should have a huge impact on the club. We’ll say it again – £3million is a hell of a lot of money.
