Nottingham Forest forward Hillal Soudani and midfielder Joao Carvalho could join Olympiacos this summer, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun reporter revealed via his personal Twitter account on Sunday that the pair could move to the Greek side, who are also owned by Evangelos Marinakis, during the current transfer window as part of a mini-exodus aimed at helping the club financially.

Nixon said: “Owner Marinakis looking at taking some players to other club Olympiacos. Soudani one Carvalho maybe. Others could go. Helps finances.”

Soudani was limited to just six appearances in the Championship last term, five of which came from the bench, while Carvalho made 28 appearances contributing four goals and assists as Forest missed out on the play-offs.

OPINION

Soudani has failed to live up to his promising potential since making the move to Nottingham Forest, but Carvalho has shown glimpses of his talent during his time at the club. It is no real surprise to see the pair being linked with a move to Greek side Olympiacos given their affiliation with Forest’s owner, and if the pair were to leave it could provide, as Nixon suggests, extra funds for Martin O’Neill to go out and strengthen his side during the summer transfer window. However, if Nottingham Forest are going to allow both players to leave they must ensure that replacements are swiftly brought in as O’Neill looks to build a side capable of challenging for promotion to the Premier League next term. Forest invested heavily last summer in the transfer market and are unlikely to do the same this summer, so getting rid of Soudani appears to be a sensible approach, but allowing Carvalho to leave could be a mistake, with the midfielder having the ability to make the difference in games for Forest.
