Rangers are in the hunt to sign Liverpool forward Harry Wilson, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Sunday [07:00pm] that Steven Gerrard hopes to lure the £21million-rated Wales international to Ibrox this summer.

However it is understood that Rangers face a lot of competition in their pursuit of Wilson as Derby want to re-sign him after a successful loan spell at Pride Park last season.

Crystal Palace, Southampton, Newcastle, Valencia, Getafe, Augsburg, Hertha Berlin, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt are also interested in the 22-year-old.

Good move for Rangers?

Wilson would be a terrific signing for Rangers.

He was in superb form for Derby last season, scoring 18 goals and supplying six assists in 49 appearances across all competitions and helped the Rams reach the Championship play-off final, where they eventually lost to Aston Villa.

If Gerrard can strike a loan agreement for Wilson then the forward would not only good a good replacement for Ryan Kent, he could even be an upgrade on the English attacker.

Just looking at the teams interested in Wilson suggests that it would be a top addition by the Gers.

Likely to happen?

Not a chance.

Rangers will surely be unable to spend £21million on signing Wilson permanently yet some of the other clubs interested in the Welsh forward would be able to stump up that sort of money without an issue.

Why would Liverpool let him go out on loan to Rangers as well?

Yes there is the Gerrard link, but Wilson’s performances at Derby last season prove that he could be good enough for a Premier League team.

If Liverpool wanted to loan him out, it would be to someone like Palace or Newcastle, or a team in a major European league like Valencia or Leipzig.
