Qatar Sports Investments are in advanced discussions about buying a stake in Leeds United, according to The New York Times.

The US newspaper claims that initial talks were held between Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani and QSI chairman Nasser al-Khelaifi, who also owns Paris Saint-Germain, on Monday about a potential investment.

However it is understood that the talks could eventually end in a “full buyout” of the Yorkshire club.

OPINION

Would Leeds fans be willing to sell their soul to the devil in order to get themselves back to the top of English football? Most of the supporters probably would and for those that do, this news about QSI’s potential full-scale takeover could be a dream come true. Al-Khelaifi and QSI’s involvement at PSG has turned them into a relatively average Ligue 1 side into a club that could pretty much afford any player in the world and assemble one of the most expensive squads that football has to offer. Although it has not quite worked out for them at European level just yet, PSG have turned into the dominant force in France and Leeds fans will surely that success and want if for themselves. For the football purists, seeing Radrizzani stay at Elland Road might be the better and least controversial route to promotion back to the big-time. Leeds nearly did it this season. One more year and they could do it with Radrizzani in the boardroom and Marcelo Bielsa in the dug-out.
