Ian Wright sent Alan Shearer a message on Instagram to share he was happy to be getting Arsenal’s clash with Newcastle United out of the way early.

Wright posted a picture of the Premier League’s opening fixtures, after they were confirmed by the division, and this prompted a fan to point out that the first batch of clashes saw Wright’s team clash with Shearer’s.

This supporter pointing out that the two pundit’s favoured sides would be battling in the first weekend of the 2019/20 season, saw Wright send Shearer a cheeky six-word message that implied he was happy to get the game out of the way.

“Get it out the way early @ashearer9,” wrote Wright via his personal Instagram account.

OPINION

You think it would be Shearer wanting Newcastle’s clash with Arsenal to be over as soon as possible, as the Gunners will be the favourites going into the game on paper. While this could change depending on the business both clubs get done in the summer, you’d predict Arsenal to comfortably beat the Magpies as it stands. Yet who knows maybe Wright is already preparing for Arsenal to make a disappointing start to the 2019/20 campaign after ending their 2018/19 season in terrible fashion. The Gunners were brushed aside by Chelsea in the Europa League final and looked woeful all over the shop. While the summer break will help them recover from such a notable defeat, losing 4-1 to a London rival is no easy thing to get over. However it’s worth pointing out that the Magpies may not end up having a confidence-building summer either and could be unprepared upon playing Arsenal. After all as it stands, Rafa Benitez is still on course to leave his post as Magpies manager as his current contract doesn’t have long left to run.
