Wolverhampton Wanderers triggered a break clause in their deal with former shirt sponsors W88 to secure the biggest sponsorship deal in the club’s history, according to the Express and Star.

The newspaper claim on their website that with Wolves officially confirming that they had sealed a new primary sponsor for the upcoming season in the shape of ManBetX, the Molineux outfit have copied their actions from last summer, when they split ways with The Money Shop, to seal a bigger commercial deal.

The agreement, which Laurie Dalrymple confirms to be the biggest in the club’s history, is said to be focused on expanding the club’s reach in Asia, with ManBetX a bookmaker in the region.

Opinion

They might have been promoted to the top flight just over 12 months ago but Wolves are not small fish in the big pond that is the Premier League. They are going to be constantly looking for ways to move forward and grow as both a business and a football club and with sponsorship one of the main ways of earning some much needed investment, this is a notable deal. Yes, Fosun International, Wolves’ conglomerate owners, might not need the money in their own pockets but a bigger primary sponsor makes the club more self-sustainable and might mean they need to dip into their own funds to help push the club up to new heights. The fact Wolves were able to secure an agreement with W88 to break their terms and move onto a new sponsorship shows the ambitions at Molineux – nothing is ever good enough and they will always be striving to improve themselves, both on a footballing level as well as commercially.
