Wolves will look to target a defender and a striker in the transfer window, as they look to improve their squad, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun writer claims that Nuno Espirito Santo is relaxed about his potential summer dealings and doesn’t feel the desperate need to improve his squad after their first season back in the Premier League saw them qualify for European football, with just two new additions on the cards.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Nixon said: “Want extra centre-half and striker. Poss right-sider. Don’t seem desperate to strengthen. Relaxed.”

Wolves will start their season with Europa League qualifiers after finishing seventh in the Premier League and could face six games just to qualify for the competition.

Santo spent over £100million in his clubs first season back in the top flight but with this report, it seems Wolves will not be spending that sort of money this time around.

OPINION

After their high expenditure last season where they ended up spending £80million more than what they received at the club, it would seem sensible to adopt this approach. However, for finishing seventh in the Premier League, the club will have gained a large windfall and could use this to improve their squad strongly. The added pressure on the players of Europa League football will demand more and Nuno Espirito Santo could see this as a reason to change his approach and bring in more players to help cope with the added demand fitness wise. With Diogo Jota and Raul Jiminez performing so well together as a partnership in their first season together, the need for a striker could have lessened, but if you look at the Wolves bench, there isn’t much to bring on should they fail to deliver next season. The signing of a young striker could prove benefitial in the long run for the club. When you also look at Ryan Bennett in the defence, he could be a potential weak spot. Although the English defender enjoyed a great first season back in the top flight, it could be a good move to bring in a more marquee defender to sure up their back five.
