Leeds United are to launch talks over a potential deal for Helder Costa as Wolves look to enquire about the availability of Elland Road ace Kalvin Phillips, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football news outlet claim that the Molineux outfit have joined the ever growing list of clubs interested in the versatile midfielder, who has established himself as a favourite under Marcelo Bielsa due to his ability to play either in the middle of the park or at centre back.

The report states that Leeds are keen on securing a deal for winger Costa from the Premier League side but they will ask about Phillips in return, with a possible swap deal likely to be mooted.

Opinion

This is not the way Leeds will have wanted talks to go. They would have been hoping to see a simple loan deal sealed for the Portuguese international, who would return to the Championship after struggling to make his mark in the top flight. Instead it looks as though Wolves will be keen on making Phillips part of their squad in return and that will complicate the Whites’ hunt to strengthen their options out wide. Phillips has proven himself as a key member of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad and the way Leeds United play their football so losing him would require a replacement to take his place. Is Costa worth losing Phillips for? You would probably say no – after all, the winger has not really done what was expected of him in the Premier League while the Leeds midfielder is one of the most in demand players at Elland Road this summer, with plenty of top flight interest reported in his capture. If Wolves dig their heels in, then maybe it would be best for Leeds would be best calling off their hunt.
