COMMENTARY

Many West Ham fans were thrilled on social media after Sky Sports reported that the Hammers had bid £10million for FC Lorient forward Alexis Claude-Maurice. The broadcaster claimed the Hammers had emerged to show their concrete interest in the 21-year-old by launching a bid, even though previous speculation suggested it was Arsenal in the hunt for his signature. Claude-Maurice scored 14 goals and racked up four assists in 35 outings in Ligue 2 in his 2018/19 campaign, and stood out for that reason. The 21-year-old can play in a central role or on the left flank; and it seems that was enough to get many Hammers fans excited. Some openly admitted that they were thrilled by the player’s stats and YouTube clips rather than from watching him first-hand, however a few seemed to have checked him out in his latest season and as a result were thrilled. When you consider that Claude-Maurice is still young, and his stats are promising; then it’s clear why Hammers fans are eager for their side’s bid to succeed.
