West Ham United are ready to offload young midfielder Martin Samuelsen at any cost this summer, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news source claims that manager Manuel Pellegrini has decided to cut his losses on the 22-year-old and his £8,000-per-week contract.

The Norwegian has embarked on six different loan spells throughout his time in east London, but it is now thought that he has no long term future under the Chilean.

As such, the club are hoping to secure a permanent sale or a loan with full wages paid for the youngster, and may consider terminating his contract by mutual consent if Samuelsen can find another club this summer.

Good move for West Ham?

It’s about time that the Hammers got Samuelsen off their books, yes. He’s been at the club for four years now and has never once threatened to kick on and make a first team place his own.

He has had numerous loan spells in different countries, but has never truly impressed. So it’s going to be difficult for the club to find a team willing to pay a transfer fee to bring him in.

Probably the best possible scenario for them is that they find a loan for him where the loan club pays the entirety of his wages. He’ll be a free agent in a year’s time anyway, so their desired outcome would still be achieved.

Likely to happen?

This is where it gets tricky. As mentioned, you want a team to come in and buy Samuelsen or at least agree to take his full wages of West Ham’s hands. However, that feels unlikely at the moment. Perhaps then it could come down to a mutual termination, provided the player can find a new home.
