West Ham have made a new and improved bid for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to Claret and Hugh

The outlet claim that the Hammers have made a fresh £20million bid for the defensive midfielder, and that Manuel Pellegrini will be willing to increase the fee up to as high as £25million.

Claret and Hugh were told by a highly placed source: “It’s all cat and mouse at this stage of the summer so we can only press on with our own plans. However, a new £20 million bid has been made,

“The manager sees Gomes as his number one target but whatever happens there – and we are hopeful of a deal – a defensive midfielder alongside Declan is a priority.”

Good move for West Ham?

This would be a very good move.

Of course, there has been lots of interest from the London club directed towards the 6ft 2in defensive midfielder (Source: Transfermrkt) already throughout this summer transfer window, but it seems now that the club are willing to keep on increasing their offers to Barcelona until they get their man.

Gomes impressed last season for Everton, and featured 29 times for the Toffees in all competitions, and will no doubt be looking to stay in the Premier League next season with West Ham looking keen to make the same thing happen.

Likely to happen?

For the right price, yes.

Barcelona will probably just be waiting until they receive an offer for the player that they will struggle to refuse, and with West Ham looking likely to continue their interest and pursuit of Gomes going into the new Premier League season, the fee could be agreed some time soon.

As far as Gomes is concerned, he fit in perfectly in the Premier League last season with Everton, and would be a good fit at the London Stadium too.

Assuming he is keen to stay in England, this move looks like the perfect move for both parties.
