Manchester United have made an approach to sign Tottenham defensive midfielder Eric Dier, according to Football Insider

The outlet report that the Manchester club have highlighted the England international as a target to fill the midfield void at Old Trafford next season, so have made contact over signing him.

Football Insider also claim that a United source has stated that the club have reignited their interest from two years ago, as they are convinced the North London club will let him go this summer.

Dier has featured 28 times in all competitions for Spurs this season, after falling out of favour for Mauricio Pochettino in the Premier League.

Good move for Spurs?

It’s a hard one, because Dier is brilliant for squad depth.

Although it could be argued that the England international may not be one of the first names on the team sheet for the Argentine coach, he is an excellent player to have in the squad.

Whether he starts or not, he can do a job when he comes on, and the 25-year old would be a good player for any club at the top level.

It would be a huge loss for Spurs if he were to go, especially if he ends up shining at Old Trafford, however he is very replaceable.

Likely to happen?

It could happen, but there would no doubt be lots of factors that would need to come into play.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær is thought to be an admirer of the defensive midfielder, so it seems likely that if United were to make an offer for him, then he could be convinced in making the switch to Old Trafford.
However, whether Pochettino will be willing to sell-up and get rid of Dier to another top-six Premier League side is debatable as he won’t want to help them out.
Considering the England international has not been a regular in the Premier League for the North London club, he could be tempted to a move to Manchester should he be promised more football, or indeed a wage increase from his current £60,000-per week. (Source: Spotrac)
