Harry Winks warned Tottenham about facing Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish in the first game of the Premier League season as he claimed the 23-year-old was capable of winning the game on his own.
The 23-year-old Spurs midfielder shared that his side needed to be wary of Grealish due to his ability after it was revealed that the Villans would play Spurs in the opening weekend of the Premier League.
Winks pointed out that Spurs were going to give Villa full respect and shared that he was a good friend of the current Villans captain.
“I’ve played with Jack for England and he is a good friend of mine. He’s a very good player and someone who can win a game on his own so we’ll have to be wary of that,” said Winks in an interview with Tottenham’s official website.
“As I said, we’ll give Villa full respect.”
OPINION
Winks praising Grealish is no surprise as the Villans playmaker deserves all the plaudits that come his way. Grealish was amazing in the second half of his 2018/19 campaign upon returning through injury and played a massive part in helping Dean Smith’s side win promotion through the play-offs. The 23-year-old scored six goals, while assisting eight, in 35 games for the Villans last season and was generally a thorn in the side of his opponents. If Grealish’s end of season form continues into his 2019/20 campaign then Spurs should be worried about facing him during the opening weekend. However while Winks is quick to put the spotlight on the Villans captain, Mauricio Pochettino must be aware he isn’t the Villans only danger man. John McGinn is equally as capable as Grealish after all he did score nine goals while assisting 12 in his 2018/19 campaign, so Spurs need to watch out for him too.
