OPINION
Saturday night was a mixed one for Tottenham.
On the one hand, Mauricio Pochettino’s men never really got started against Liverpool in a relatively drab Champions League final, and there was an impending sense of inevitability about their 2-0 defeat from the moment that Moussa Sissoko was judged to have handled the ball in his own penalty area in the second minute.
On the other hand, Spurs still have an awful lot to be proud of. This Champions League run will live with fans for a lifetime, and the tenacity and passion that shone through in the stunning wins over Manchester City and Ajax showed just how special this club truly is.
That being said, there will still be an air of frustration in north London this morning.
This was a Liverpool side far below their usual standards, and on another day, perhaps things would have been different.
Nonetheless, it was quite the occasion, and you feel, for some members of the side, a fitting way to bow out of the club.
One such player was Kieran Trippier.
The 28-year-old has been linked with both Atletico Madrid and Napoli this summer, as reported by the Mirror, and spent a long time emotionally thanking fans after the defeat to Liverpool in Madrid.
Watching the footage, as posted by BT Sport, this doesn’t just look like the condolences of a player who has lost a final.
Much respect to Kieran Trippier ?

Trippier’s reaction, and the length he goes to to express his gratitude to the fans, give the real feeling of a man saying his good byes to the club as a whole.
Surely this is the biggest indication yet of his future at Spurs.
