Tottenham full-back Kieran Trippier has insisted that he wants to stay in England this summer.

The 28-year-old, who was part of the side that lost to Liverpool in the Champions League final on Saturday, has been linked with moves to the Serie A with Napoli [The Sun] and Juventus [The Express] in recent weeks.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, however, the England international admitted that while he sees his future lying in the Premier League, his hands are tied over what will actually happen.

“I want to stay in England. But what can you do?” Trippier said. “I’ll see what happens and what the club wants, most importantly.

“I give everything for this club – training sessions, games – so we’ll see what happens in preseason.”

OPINION

It’s going to be an interesting summer at Tottenham, not only because they need to strengthen if they are to take themselves to the next level – having lost the Champions League final in Madrid at the weekend – but also because there are a few transfer rumours swirling about some of their key players. Christian Eriksen’s future is obviously one of those, but reports of a departure for Trippier have refused to go away. Talk of a move to Napoli is still rife and as the right-back himself says, there is not much he can do. After putting in stunning performances during the World Cup last summer, he has failed to kick on and has had a poor season, making some key mistakes before being dropped from the England squad. For now, he needs to forget about any transfer rumours about him and focus on getting back to his best, which is not where he has been for a while.
