Tottenham have surely been given a boost in their pursuit of signing AC Milan midfielder Frank Kessie following the latest report over his future.
According to the Express, Tottenham are in the hunt to sign Kessie alongside Premier League rivals West Ham and Arsenal, with Milan understood to be willing to listen to offers of around £30million for the midfielder.
The report also suggests that Kessie would prefer to make the move to a team that are competing in European competition next season, which would leave Tottenham with a very good chance of securing his signature ahead of both Arsenal and West Ham.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side finished fourth last season meaning they secured qualification for next season’s Champions League, which leaves them the only side out of the trio clubs interested in Kessie to be able to offer the midfielder elite European football next term.
Tottenham will be wanting to improve their squad this summer, after failing to make a single addition in either of the last two transfer windows, and midfield will be a priority, especially considering Moussa Dembele left the club in January.
Kessie would be an excellent addition for Pochettino’s side, with the 22-year-old enjoying a fine season with Milan last term, managing to score seven goals in 34 appearances from midfield in Italy.
However, it is not just his goal return that would make him a valuable addition to Spurs, the midfielder also offers an effectiveness defensively, averaging 1.2 tackles and 0.8 interceptions [whoscored.com] per game in Serie A last term.
Kessie is also very comfortable in possession having averaged 49.7 passes per game with an average of 87% success rate [whoscored.com] in the Italian top flight last season, which would allow him to fit seamlessly into Pochettino’s midfield.
Tottenham will be needing to make a few notable additions this summer, and with Kessie available for around £30 million that would leave plenty of money left to strengthen other areas of Spurs’ squad.
The addition of the 22-year-old could be even more important given the speculation over the future of Christian Erkisen, who has cast doubt over his future at Tottenham by stating that he is wanting an new challenge in an interview with Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet.
Pochettino will be hopeful he is able to win the race to secure Kessie’s signature this summer, with the midfielder in demand after an impressive campaign with Milan.
