Tottenham are in pursuit of Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha this summer as the Italian side place a £22million asking price on his head, according to Gazetta Dello Sport.

The Italian publication claim on their website that the Lilywhites are joined by north London rivals Arsenal in chasing the 24-year-old giant, who stands at 6’4″ (source: Transfermarkt) and is an Albanian international.

It is stated that while Lazio do not intend to let their shot stopper leave, a fee of £22million (€25million) would be enough to convince them otherwise, with Strakosha said to have been dreaming of a move to England and the Premier League.

Good move for Tottenham?

The Lilywhites do not exactly need a new first choice stopper, Hugo Lloris very much Mauricio Pochettino’s favoured option between the sticks, while the Argentine boss has a decent backup option in the form of Paulo Gazzaniga too.

Michel Vorm’s exit does leave Spurs without an experienced third choice keeper but that is something of a rarity, with Pochettino likely to look at promoting Alfie Whiteman to the senior side as and when needed.

Strakosha is not going to move to north London to be a number two option and certainly not third choice so that £22million could be spent elsewhere.

Still, if Lloris does go, maybe Pochettino has his replacement lined up.

Likely to happen?

As stated, this all depends on what happens at Spurs this summer.

Lloris’ future will decide whether Pochettino needs to dip into the market and if he does then there is no reason why the Lazio ace would not be convinced of a move to Tottenham.

Right now though, this looks to be a potential option rather than something Spurs will go all out to get over the line.
