OPINION
Tottenham need to make some signings this summer. Their incredible run in the Champions League, supplemented with qualification for the tournament again next year, has papered over an awful lot of cracks in north London, and with injuries and a basis lack of depth, there have been times when Mauricio Pochettino has been more akin to a firefighter than a football manager. Some positions clearly need investment more than others. Central midfield is an absolute definite, and there’s a strong argument to be made of reinforcements in the full-back areas, especially if some players depart. One signing who would fill neither of those roles, but would certainly get pulses racing at the club, is Gareth Bale. The Welshman is having a torrid time of it at Real Madrid, and Spurs fans are desperate for him to come home to the club that helped turn him into a superstar. After seeing his Wales side lose to Croatia in their Euro 2020 qualifier, supporters seemed to be more determined than ever to convince him to come back to England. Whether that happens or not is anybody’s guess, but it would be an acquisition that would send Tottenham supporters into a full-on meltdown.
