Tottenham got a much better look at Ajax’s squad than most this season. Over two legs in the Champions League semi-final, they went toe to toe with one of the most exciting young outfits in world football, and barely lived to tell the tale. But for some late heroics from Lucas Moura, Spurs would definitely have been consigned to the heap of sizeable scalps they had already claimed in the competition, and it’s easy to see why they were able to pull of such minor miracles on a regular basis. For years, Ajax’s academy system has been a hallmark of class. If a youngster comes through the ranks in Amsterdam, you can all but guarantee that they’re going to be a real player, and this current crop of stars is as good as any they have had for many years. One talent who is sometimes overlooked a little is Donny Van de Beek. The midfielder is a hot prospect, but compared to some of his teammates, he has a tendency to go under the radar, doing the hard graft that nobody really notices. That being said, most clubs in Europe would bite your hand off for him, and you would assume that Spurs would be among them. That’s why the latest claim from Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan should have Spurs very excited. Speaking on talkSPORT, van der Kraan suggested that Van de Beek would be eager to move to north London if the opportunity materialises. Daniel Levy should go out of his way to make it happen.

I feel like we should sign him just because he looks like a young Michael Dawson! But I’ve been impressed with him each time I’ve seen him. If the club do move Eric Dier on as well as Eriksen then Ndombele, Lo Celso and Van De Beek would be incredible.
