Tottenham could spend over £150 million this summer, according to Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold.

Spurs have not spent any money over the past two transfer windows, but could be in line for a splurge this summer, with rumours abound concerning a number of targets.

In a piece for Football.London, Gold acknowledged the clubs interest in Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon, and Tanguy Ndombele, but claimed that the spending may not stop there.

He said: “After two transfer windows without any new arrivals, the outlay, if Spurs can tie up all three deals, would likely be north of £150m and the club would not look to stop there with question marks over certain defenders’ future in north London.”

OPINION

This will no doubt have Tottenham fans salivating. On the one hand, the links with Lo Celso, Sessegnon, and Ndombele are hardly anything new, but the fact that Gold is talking about them in fairly positive terms is surely a good sign. More promising still is the fact that he is of the belief that the club will move for more players on top of that. With Toby Alderweireld’s contract situation up in the air, and with rumours mounting over the potential departure of Kieran Trippier, there is a strong chance that Spurs will have to move for a defender or two this summer. The fact that Gold believes Daniel Levy is willing to do that is a really decent indicator of a sea change in the transfer policy at the club, and could herald the beginning of an era of relatively big spending. After so long on the sidelines of the market, that would be a fantastic development for the club.
