Tottenham legend Graham Roberts has delivered a message to current Spurs ace Danny Rose.

Speaking out after his UEFA Nations League exploits over the weekend, the £60,000-a-week defender [Spotrac], as quoted by Football.London, said: “It is a bit draining having lost last weekend and having to share the camp with Liverpool players.

“You are reminded every day that you lost the final and that was a unique experience for me.

“I have never been through that myself. I was definitely tired from a long season with my club and having to come to England didn’t help. But as I said, whenever you’re selected for England it is a great occasion. It is one I will always welcome and cherish.”

Replying to the quote on Twitter, Roberts said: “We know how you feel Danny!”

OPINION

You have to feel for Rose and his other Tottenham teammates. Having to get over such a crushing defeat is hard enough, but to then have to go and face a number of the player who inflicted it on you must be torturous. With less than a week between the Champions League final and the start of the Nations League, this was always going to be an issue, not to mention the fatigue that comes with playing a tournament immediately off the back of such a lengthy campaign. As for Rose, he was always going to face a fair amount of stick from his Liverpool-representing teammates, but no doubt he would have been just as eager to dish it out had he been able get his hands on the biggest prize in club football himself. That’s just the rub of the green, but now he has all summer to get his head round the defeat.
