All eyes are on Tottenham this summer.

After vastly overachieving in Europe this season, and with Champions League football all wrapped for next term, the club are at the forefront of the transfer rumour mill as everybody tries to figure out just what approach the club will take in the market.

A barren couple of windows has left Mauricio Pochettino’s squad in desperate need of some freshening up, but to what extent Daniel Levy will be willing to do that is difficult to say.

Not that that is stopping the media from piling in on the speculation.

Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, and Ryan Sessegnon are all being linked as potential additions, as reported by the Evening Standard, but as yet, none of those deals have gotten over the line.

And former England international Danny Mills thinks he knows why.

Speaking to Football Insider, the Sky Sports pundit said: “Of course, all transfers will be up in the air.

“Players want to sign because they want to play for Pochettino. If they are unsure if he is still the manager, a lot of players won’t sign.

“Tottenham will not pay the wages of the elite clubs. It will matter massively who the manager and coaching staff is.”

This is a frank assessment from Mills, but he’s pretty much on the money. Tottenham’s main draw at the moment is Pochettino, and without him, the club looks a whole lot less attractive to any potential signings.

More worrying, however, is the fact that Pochettino’s future is in doubt at all. You would like to think that the Argentine will be in north London for the long haul, but judging by Mills’ comments, Spurs’ troubles might just be beginning.

The hope will be that he commits to Tottenham long term, but if he doesn’t, where would the club go after him?

The answer is unclear, but it’s likely to be a painful one.
