Tottenham chief Daniel Levy is set to hold midfield maestro Christian Eriksen to ransom after the Danish ace angered him with his revelations about wanting to leave the club, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Spurs chairman was annoyed by Eriksen’s decision to speak to the Danish media about his future, confirming that he wants to “try something new”, and that while the player might hope it would force a move, the north Londoners are prepared to play hardball over his signing.

It is stated that while Real Madrid were hoping for a cut price deal of £40million, partly due to his contract running out next summer, Levy is set to demand double that at £80million, a fee the Spanish side are unwilling to meet.

The report claims Levy will not drop his asking price and that Eriksen could be forced to remain at Spurs as a result.

Opinion

It did seem quite strange that Eriksen was so open about what he wants from his immediate future and it does not seem to have been taken well by the man at the top of the Tottenham totem pole. Levy is notorious for getting a deal which suits his club and Eriksen should have known that keeping quiet was the best course of action, rather than putting himself in the shop window. Tottenham have a quality talent on their hands and are not going to part for a cut price deal – that is just not in their nature – and the Danish star should have had faith that Spurs would let him leave as and when their price tag was met. Had he acted professionally and without drawing attention to his desire to leave, maybe Levy would have even shaved a few million off to give Eriksen, a dedicated servant to the Lilywhites’ cause, the exit he wants. Now he faces being stuck in north London as the Spurs chief digs his heels in and demands a whopping transfer fee. Whoops.
